How to export for iDVD

Here's a quick tutorial on how to export a file to iDVD from FCP.

1. Go to File-->Export-->Using QuickTime conversion

2. Click "options" and set the size to NTSC 720x480 4:3

3. Click OK, and you're done!

One last thing...the QT file that I'd like for the final video can be exported simply by going to export-->Quicktime movie...that's it!

Johnny Lee's Head Tracking! Check this out

Hello guys, i bring exciting news! This is a really cool experiment that I've found on Youtube, and I think that everyone who likes art, or videogames, will find this interesting.

I guess you can call this a follow up of Mr. Skye's whiteboard post, although this is different, and very, very cool, if you mix these 2 programs you can have a blast, just looking at images.

I hope you guys like it. Enjoy!

Juan.

ccMixter

I am a Creative Commons fanatic! I just love how people are willing to share their art with others, let them remix, re-purpose, and reuse it in a fair and (eh hem...) legal manner. As I was working on a documentary project today about a teacher who uses wii remotes in his science class, I started thinking how I was going to score it. Now, I know how to use Garageband, but sometimes it's difficult to get ideas so I did a short google search (I typed in "documentary music, creative commons") and started checking out ccMixter. It's a great site where music artists share their work. Check it out if you get a chance, it's great!

Wii Remote Smartboard!

Hey y'all!

This might be more for teachers than students, but I wanted to share this cool video about making ANY SURFACE (a wall, computer monitor, table etc...) an interactive whiteboard by simply using a $40 wii remote and a homemade pen! Anyone interested in helping me make a pen (or two, or three???) I think this is so cool!

Here's software that works with mac:

I --> set the "in" point
O --> set the "out" point
A --> arrow (select) tool
B --> blade tool
shift&delete --> delete and move clips
space --> play/stop

What do you think the best way would be for students to show/share their IMovie monologues? Would burning them all to a DVD work (and would that require a DVD per computer)? I'd love to hear ideas/suggestions!

The Freesound Project!

Hey All!

Here's a really great website that I use all of the time for checking out new sounds, music loops and effects. Click on the following link:

It's a creative commons site, so all of the sounds & music are free to download!

Audio under pictures in iMovie

Here's a short tutorial on how to use the audio from your video track (in iMovie) for your photos...
Video thumbnail. Click to play
Click To Play

The shortcut key (after you set your in/out points for the audio you want to put under the picture) is apple + shift...

Btw, sorry about the audio on this tutorial! It's kinda low!

Session 2: Importing Clips and starting to edit!

Hi Everyone!

So today we're going to learn how to import clips into your FCP project, set in and out points in the viewer, drag the clips into the time line, and then cut them up with the blade tool. Exciting!

First things first...please download the practice clip from the link here...(unless you have video footage that you would like to use already!)

After you are finished downloading, check out the video below (it's one take, so please be kind!) to see how to import and start editing!

Here are some shortcuts that I use in the video:
apple_I --> Import a file to the browser
apple_+ --> zoom in
apple_- --> zoom out
I --> set the "in" point
O --> set the "out" point
A --> arrow (select) tool
B --> blade tool
shift&delete --> delete and move clips
space --> play/stop

Have fun and post questions if you have them!
See you soon!

Critical Lens?

Hello again!

I wanted to post a couple of videos that you may find interesting...If you'd like to put your "critical lenses" on and critique what you liked/didn't like, please do! The first one is Willoby & Himrod, the second is Jeferson's first video with iMovie...

First Session! (Introductions...Why Video Edit???)

Hey guys!

I was really fun talking with you today about FCP (shorthand for Final Cut) and the various stages of working in film. I hope you are excited to get going with storyboarding, collecting media, and editing your project in Final Cut. Also, thanks for your great feedback on the documentary I made. Here's the full-length video, if you want to see the rest:

Here's what we went over today (in case you want to review!)
  • Final Cut is an industry standard for video editing in Hollywood (Think Spielburg!) Knowing how to use this software will be an enormous help professionally and academically.
  • Managing Media (Assets): FCP is a non-linear editing system, that means you won't ever ever lose anything. It also backs up your work for you automatically! (whew!)
  • Setting up a project folder (super important!): Three folders--> Project folder, Video/Audio/Image folder inside.
  • The importance of storyboards: Storyboards are used to organize your thoughts (much like an outline organizes a paper.) They range from simple drawings to very complicated and detailed illustrations. Storyboards can be made anywhere, but for our purposes, you can use the handouts that Ms. Erika has.  There is no one way to make a storyboard (very important!) I use many different media to storyboard...from large pieces of scrap paper to a journal that I carry around. Here's an example of a storyboard that I used for an animation that I created...(It was a 10 Things episode)
